Jimmy
Now this is a story learned once the cards were underway and it's such a hidden gem it truly deserves to be a wild card. Like the other wild card featuring Dusty Springfield, it's another grave to visit.
Wee Jimmy was a marmoset belonging to Miss Jekell back in the 1930s, a former nurse residing in New Street who would wear him around her neck like a fur stole and always dressed in black.
There's a small gravestone on the Fairmile (just before you reach the Fairmile Vineyard) dedicated to Jimmy that reads: “Jimmy — a tiny marmoset August 16, 1937. There isn’t enough darkness in the world to quench the light of one small candle.” The sentiment of this is just too darn good not to be included in the pack.
As you face the grave, look to the right of the tree behind it and there's a public footpath. Download the free Brakspear app for a 6.5-mile circular walk that takes you up and around to enjoy Henley's wonderful countryside. It's around 3.5 hours so leave yourself plenty of time.
